Ca 1600 century dress

the dress from the front

This dress is inspired of the Irish folklore, around the 1600 century. It is a waistcoat and a skirt, that together make a dress. On the waistcoat there are small pieces of dark blue wool at the armholes and at the bottom of the waistcoat.

If you use very fine 100% wool, eventually you do not have to sew around the tabs round the armholes and at the bottom of the waistcoat

The dress is worn over a chemise.

Skirt from behind

The skirt

is made from 6 pieces of gore, every second piece have a darker color, so it is clearely shown that the skirt is more worked than a regular skirt sewed in just two pieces.

Take half the waist mesure and split it into 3. What you have to do now is add the length to the pattern of the gore, take the lenght from waist to foot and make the pattern broader at the bottom

The waistcoat is made after the body, and is very tight. It can be difficult to make such a pattern all by yourself. I suggest that you buy a pattern of a waistcoat and modifie it, if you don`t use the personal pattern. Cut of a little from the length of the waistcoat, and make the tabs, from this cutaway piece from the lenght.

Do not put tabs to far down at the armholes, because it will probably feel like a big ball or something big in your armpit after a while.
